About Get More EWCM

I created this blog to provide women with information on how to help with EWCM (egg white cervical mucus), both in increasing quantity and quality. Many fertility specialists believe EWCM is integral to getting pregnant.

There are a variety of things you can do to help get more EWCM as well as lubes that mimic EWCM. I've compiled the information in the blog in an effort to help women trying to conceive. What works for some women may not work for others, so if something doesn't work, try something else. Here are somethings to try.

10 Alternative Medicines that Help with EWCM

Below you can find 10 alternative medicine therapies that might be able to help with EWCM.

Acupressure
Acupressure is something that can be done at home or with a specialist. Acupuncturists, massage therapists, and traditional Chinese medicine doctors should be able to help with acupressure. Acupressure is pushing or rubbing on specific trigger points which have influence over certain parts of your body. Although acupressure isn't specifically for EWCM, it is said to help with fertility issues. There are a number of acupressure charts as well as videos that can help you pinpoint the exact spots you need. You can find specific points related to fertility in this article.

Reflexology is acupressure that is used on the hands and feet. You don't need any special items to practice acupressure, but some people use wooden tools to help facilitate reaching specific points. They are commonly used in Thai massages, so contacting someone who is familiar with traditional Thai massage might help you. Both have long been a part of traditional medicine in Asia. Here are some posts about it.

Acupuncture
Unlike acupressure, acupuncture cannot be done at home. It must be performed by an acupuncturist. Many traditional Chinese medicine doctors are familiar with acupuncture. Acupuncture involves putting thin needles in specific channels or meridians which influence certain parts of your body. Although acupuncture isn't specifically for EWCM, it is said to help with fertility issues. Acupuncture has long been a part of traditional medicine in Asia. Here are some posts about it.

Guided Imagery
There is a lot to be said for mind over matter. Thinking something will happen can help bring it about. Hypnosis, guided meditation, or guided imagery can be done by a professional or you can use self-hypnosis, self-meditation, positive thoughts, or visualisation in the comfort of your own home. Do not listen to any hypnosis tracks while driving or operating machinery.

There are some differences between the four. With hypnosis, certain words, phrases, or affirmations are used in order for the person to enter a trance. With meditation, you're focusing your mind to relax or make a positive change. With guided imagery a person's imagination is relied upon to plant images in the subconscious. With visualisation you visualise a positive change. With positive thoughts, you simply think positively. Here are some posts about the differences.
No matter what you decide to use, the end goal is similar: to relax and have your mind bring a positive change to your body. If you're looking to work with a licensed hypnotist, please check with your country's official hypnotism organisation and find one that works for you. Alternatively, you could listen to tracks from YouTube. Many women listen to them right before they go to sleep. Even if you do end up falling asleep, your subconscious will remember what is heard. Below are some links to searches. They aren't specifically for EWCM, but for fertility in general.

Massage
There are different types of massage that may help with EWCM. Massage can help with fertility in general, and EWCM is a part of that. Massage helps in many ways. It decreases stress, increases blood flow, maintains hormone balance, detoxes, strengthens reproductive organs, among others. Here are some different types of massages. With massage you want to be careful to only do it after menstruation and up to ovulation, not afterwards. You can find more information about each type of massage below.
  • Acupressure
  • Chi Nei Tsang
  • Femoral massage (done with a partner, licensed massage therapist, or to yourself)
  • Fertility massage done by a licensed massage therapist
  • Myofacial release
  • Reflexology
  • Self-fertility massage
  • Traditional Mayan massage
Acupressure
Please see this post for more information.

Chi Nei Tsang
Influenced by Toaist, Chi Nei Tsang or CNP is an abdominal massage like traditional Mayan massage. The basis behind it is that our reproductive organs become congested with things such as stress and pollution which in turn affects our fertility. It's based around our belly buttons and the thought that they should be perfectly symmetrical. Here's more information on what CNT does. Here are three videos about CNT and this video demonstrates how to do a Chi Nei Tsang self-massage.

Femoral massage (done with a partner, licensed massage therapist, or to yourself)
Femoral massage can be used as part of self-fertility massage or fertility massage. It involves compressing the femoral artery in order to increase blood flow. It can be challenging to find the femoral artery, but with practice it should get easier. This video and this one explain more about femoral massage, how someone can do femoral massage to you, and how you can do it to yourself.

Fertility massage done by a licensed massage therapist
Licensed massage therapists can use the same massage techniques that you can apply by yourself at home. However, there are a couple of advantages of going to a licensed massage therapist. First, you can relax during the session and you don't have to think about what techniques to use. Second, licensed massage therapists have more training and more experience and are experts in what they do.

Myofacial release
Fascia is connectivity tissue that runs throughout your body. If it tightens or becomes shorter, it can affect many things, including your fertility. This article explains more about how myofacial release can help you. You will have to go to a myofacial release specialist, such as a chiropractor, in order to get a myofacial release massage.

Reflexology
Please see this post for more information.

Traditional Mayan massage
Also known as Arvigo Maya Fertility Massage, Mayan Massage, Mayan Abdominal (Fertility) Massage, and Mayan Abdominal (Fertility) Therapy. This article explains a bit more about it and what is done. It's similar to the self-fertility massage since it involves massaging the abdomen but also involves other parts of the the body as well. It's said to help with energy flow, boost fertility, and realign your reproductive organs. This article explains more about Rosita Arvigo, the woman who brought Mayan massage into the modern world. Rosita wrote Rainforest Home Remedies, a book explaining how to heal your body and soul using Mayan methods.

Self-fertility massage
You can use natural oils (such as castor oil, coconut oil, or grape seed oil) to do the massage. Relaxing music may help as well. There are two videos that show this technique. This self-fertility massage is simple and only takes a few minutes a day. It involves massaging you abdomen. You can perform this massage a few times a day. This video shows a very simple technique you can use for self-fertility massage. This video is similar and explains the benefits. This article explains how to locate your reproductive organs and how to do self-fertility massage on your uterus and ovaries. This article explains how self-fertility massage helps and what techniques are used (such as Chi Nei Tsang, deep tissue massage, myofacial release, acupressure, and reflexology) as well as complimentary therapies.

Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM uses a holistic method in order to help people. Chinese medicine is very effective in helping women get more EWCM. Many techniques are used, such as diet, acupuncture, and medicine to help restore the balance in your body. A TCM practitioner can tailor a treatment to suit your specific needs.

A Background on Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine while used commonly in China and Asia, is considered to be alternative medicine in the west. Based on Yin, Yang, and the Five Phases, it encompasses a variety of thoughts:
  • Chi: energy that runs through the body in meridians
  • Jing-luo: meridians
  • Jinye: bodily fluids
  • Xue: blood
  • Zang-fu: organs
Disease is seen as being two parts: an illness as well as a syndrome. Syndromes are presented in the Six Excesses and then diagnosed using the Eight Principles of Diagnosis and the Five Diagnosis Methods.

Treatments Used
There are a number of different treatments that are used in TCM:

21 Food and Drinks that Help with EWCM

Here are 21 foods and drinks that might be able to help you get more EWCM. Keeping your body more alkaline than acidic will help as well. Here is a list of some common alkaline foods and drinks and acidic foods and drinks.

Cantaloupe
If you don't have enough Vitamin A in your body this can lead to CM issues. This is one reason why some people recommend that you eat more cantaloupe. Your body uses beta carotene and converts it to Vitamin A as needed. Other good sources of beta carotene are oatmeal, carrots, sweet potatoes, kale, and spinach. Here are some posts about Vitamin A and EWCM. Image source
It's best to get vitamins through your diet. You should not rely on supplements completely. Try to get enough Vitamin A through foods and supplement as needed.

Cinnamon see "Honey and Cinnamon"

Dandelion Leaf and Root
Dandelion leaf and root are said to help with EWCM. Some women report an increase in EWCM after taking dandelion. It's supposed to stimulate mucus as well as help with hormone balance. Natural Fertility Info recommends it as one thing to try in order to get EWCM. You can find it in pill, powder, tincture, and tea form.

Ginger Root
I haven't found much about ginger root, other than this post about Cervical Mucus: Essential for Natural Fertility. They say that ginger root has many benefits, such as being an aphrodisiac, promoting circulation, and promoting healthy mucus membrane secretion.

Even though there isn't a lot out there about ginger root, it's something easy to try if you're looking to increase EWCM. Ginger root comes in a few forms: tea, powder, and pills. Of course, you can always buy fresh ginger and use that as well.

Grapefruit Juice
Grapefruit juice is one of the most common home remedies for getting more EWCM. Make sure you're getting 100% juice and not a juice beverage or juice cocktail. It's said to help thin CM as well as make the environment more sperm-friendly. You can drink a glass or two a day and can drink it throughout your cycle. Many women swear by grapefruit juice. Here are a few posts about it.

Green Tea
You can either drink green tea or take supplements. For women who don't like drinking water, green tea can be a great alternative and it will help with EWCM. As with other supplements you want to only take it from menstruation to ovulation.
Whether you buy loose leaf tea or take a supplement, check the ingredients. You just want it to have green tea in it. You also want it to be non-caffeinated.

Honey and Cinnamon
Some women say that one teaspoon of honey and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon a day is all that is needed to help with EWCM. You can just eat it, or put it on oatmeal (which is also said to help with EWCM), spread it on toast, put it in tea, or in water (also said to help with EWCM). Look into getting good quality honey. Make sure the honey is not hot, since heat can destroy the good qualities of honey. Warm it ok, but hot is not.

Both honey and cinnamon are said to have health benefits such as lowering blood sugar, fighting infection, and even preventing cancer. Not all honey and cinnamon are created equally, so do your research and make sure to buy quality over quantity. Here are some posts about honey and cinnamon.
You need to be careful with cinnamon. Too much can induce a miscarriage. The dosage for pills is 1-4 gr a day. For the oils, .05-.2 gr a day. In addition to the powdered cinnamon, you can also buy cinnamon in essential oil, stick, and pill form.  There are different types of cinnamon. Some people believe that Ceylon cinnamon is the one true form of cinnamon that has healing properties. Other people disagree. Here are some posts about it.

Kale
If you don't have enough Vitamin A in your body this can lead to CM issues. This is one reason why some people recommend that you eat more kale. Your body uses beta carotene and converts it to Vitamin A as needed. Other good sources of beta carotene are carrots, cantaloupes, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, and spinach. Here are some posts about Vitamin A and EWCM.

Lemon Water
Drinking lemon water can help with EWCM in two different ways. First, one reason why you might not be getting enough EWCM is because you're dehydrated. Drinking more water can help make sure you have enough CM and thin it out. Secondly, the lemon can help balance your body's PH and make the environment more alkaline which is more sperm-friendly. Even though lemons are acidic, eating lemons or drinking lemon juice will have the opposite effect on your body. Here are some posts about how lemon water can help you get more EWCM.
Carrying a water bottle with you can help remind you to drink lemon water. Rather than constantly buying water from the store, you can try Brita or Burke systems.

Licorice Root
Natural Fertility Info and Thyme and Timber recommend licorice root as one thing to try in order to get EWCM. Soulcysters has some personal stories about licorice root and infertility.

If you're having problems with ovulation, a good natural substitute for Clomid or Femara is licorice root. Start with 1350mg a day. You'd take it the same way you would take Clomid or Femara, from cycle days 3-7 or 5-9. You can also find licorice root teas. My infertility story has three posts about licorice root and ovulation. Here are part 1, part 2, and part 3. You can find it in pill, powder, tincture, and tea form.

Maca Root
Maca root is a Peruvian herb that is hailed for its medicinal properties. Once a staple in the Incan diet, it is still commonly used in Peru today. Maca powder looks like flour, but it is categorised as an herb, rather than a grain. It's said to enhance libido, hormonal balance, energy, and mental clarity.

There have not been many scientific studies done about these claims. However, it might be similar to Mayan massage; something that has been passed down generation-to-generation because it works. Other people think that there's a placebo effect that leads to results. Either way, both maca and Mayan massage might be something you want to try.

Here are a few posts about how maca can help with EWCM.
Maca comes in a few forms. It's hard to find whole maca, but you can easily find maca pills or maca powder. There's also red maca (for women)and black maca (for men). Women commonly start with 500mg twice a day or a tablespoon of the powder. Some women take it the whole month while others don't take it between when implantation may happen until they get their period. Here's a very comprehensive guide to using maca for fertility. http://amzn.to/2eQ9Xw1

Marshmallow Root
Marshmallow Root is said to help to help increase mucus and therefore can help with EWCM. Natural Fertility Info, Thyme and Timber, and Stork Mama also recommends it as one thing to try in order to get EWCM. You can find it in pill, powder, tincture, tea form.

Oatmeal

Pineapple
Pineapple, the core in particular, is said to help with EWCM. It has an enzyme called bromelain (it's a blood thinner and anti-coagulant) which increases blood to the uterus  and helps decrease inflammation. It also helps the mother not reject the fetus. If possible, try to buy fresh pineapple. Here are some posts about pineapple and EWCM.
Some people say to divide the pineapple into 5 sections and eat one section a day, starting on Day 3. (Source). Other people say to eat a whole pineapple as often as possible until implantation. (Source)

Red Clover Blossom
Red Clover Blossom is said to help increase estrogen level and circulation to your reproductive organs and therefore increase EWCM. Here's what some people have said about Red Clover Blossom.
Natural Fertility Info, Thyme and Timber, and Stork Mama also recommends it as one thing to try in order to get EWCM. Red Clover Blossom comes in pill, powder, extract, and tea form.

Red Raspberry Leaf
Red Raspberry Leaf is said to have many benefits for women, such as relaxing and toning the uterus, helping with luteal phase balance, supplying your body with vitamins and minerals, and preparing your body for labor. It provides many benefits for your reproductive system. Many women have said that it also helps with EWCM. Here are a few posts about RRL.
Red Raspberry Leaf comes in a couple forms: tea and pills. Some women love the taste of the tea and others can't stand it. Try both and see what works for you.

Royal Jelly and Bee Pollen
While royal jelly is supposed to help with egg quality, many women have reported copious amounts of EWCM after taking royal jelly and bee pollen. Don't take this if you have a bee allergy. Here are some posts about it. Some women say that you should just take it up to ovulation and not during the 2WW. Royal jelly comes in pill and honey form.

Spinach

Some people believe that yams can increase your chances of having twins. Your body uses beta carotene and converts it to Vitamin A as needed. Other good sources of beta carotene are carrots, cantaloupes, oatmeal, kale, and spinach. Here are some posts about Vitamin A and EWCM.

Water
Sometimes not having enough EWCM is simply because you're dehydrated. Drinking more water is a cheap and easy way to try to get more EWCM. Carrying a water bottle with you can help remind you to drink water. Rather than constantly buying water from the store, you can try Brita or Burke systems.

3 Cough Medicines that Help with EWCM

Taking cough medicine at the right time can increase your chances of getting pregnant. Some women have tacky CM and cough medicine can help turn it into EWCM. However, cough medicine cannot create mucus if you don't have any to begin with. Drinking lots of water can help you make mucus. Cough medicines are commonly suggested to women who don't have a lot of EWCM.

Toni Wescheler, the author of Taking Charge of Your Fertility recommends taking Robitussin. Doctors in the article, Improvement of Cervial Factors with Guaifensein, recommend taking guaifenesin. Although cough medicine was not meant to help with fertility issues, but some women have found that, although it's not licensed to help with EWCM, it does. Other women are not comfortable using medicines for things that they're not supposed to do. If you decide to take it, make sure you are drinking lots of water and are well-hydrated.

If you're going to take it, women usually take 2 teaspoons (200 mg) 2-3 times a day with a max of 4 teaspoons 4 times a day.  If you're taking the pill format, take 400-600mg. Women typically start 5 days before ovulation and take it through ovulation.

To further increase your chances of conceiving, you need to pinpoint your ovulation. There are many ways to do this, such as using manual OPKs (Wondfo is cheap and consistently gets good reviews and there's also Clear Blue Digital Ovulation Tests), digital OPKs, such as the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor (It's expensive, but many women swear by it), charting, or ferning (saliva ovulation tests).

Guaifenesin
Many cough medicines have guaifenesin in them. This is an expectorant and it thins mucus. Any generic brand will do as long is it has guaifenesin in it. There are many posts about http://amzn.to/2ehLYt5cough medicine and EWCM. If you do decide to take http://amzn.to/2ehLYt5cough medicine, look at the ingredients. You want it to have guaifenesin, which is the expectorant that will thin mucus. You just want to buy regular http://amzn.to/2ehLYt5cough medicine, not the DM version.

    Mucinex
Mucinex, like Robitussin, is an expectorant and as such can help aid thin mucus so it comes out. There are many posts about http://amzn.to/2ehLYt5Mucinex and EWCM. If you do decide to take http://amzn.to/2ehLYt5Mucinex, look at the ingredients. You want it to have Guaifenesin, which is the expectorant that will thin mucus. You just want to buy regular http://amzn.to/2ehLYt5Mucinex, not the DM version.

    Robitussin
There are many posts about Robitussin and EWCM. Below are just a few. Do your research and decide if you think it's right for you. It cannot create mucus if you don't have any to begin with. Drinking lots of water can help you make mucus. If you do decide to take Robitussin, look at the ingredients. You want it to have Guaifenesin, which is the expectorant that will thin mucus. Don't get Robitussin DM.
